Show Notes

How did someone who studied Shakespeare Romance and Tragedy get hired at Barclays Bank and Adobe?!

In 2021, Barclays was rated by a Linkedin Study as the #1 best employer in the UK and Adobe has consistently figured in the Fortune magazine list of best workplaces. My guest today, Dan Reed, has worked in both these sought-after companies. So I know advice will be useful to many of you.

Yet what drew me to a conversation with Dan was something else.

He is part of a growing tribe of Dads who talk about being a Dad, who want a rewarding and successful career, but not at the expense of family. And second, Dan recently started at Adobe in Digital Strategy, after 7 years at Barclays bank, and there’s an insightful story on how he got hired at Adobe, which holds lessons for many jobseekers today.

In this episode we talk about:

 - The exact steps Dan took to secure a job and grow at Barclays, coming from a non-traditional background

- Wearing full arm tattoos at the workplace, and how and why he got inked as a teenager, considering his fear of needles!

- The very personal reason Dan started his blog and podcast “The Career Dad”, how it’s resonated with men around the world and how it’s promoting gender equality

- The ‘networking’ strategy Dan used to get noticed and hired at Adobe. Hint: it was not overnight but this strategy paid off, big time. It can for you too.
